Femto-LASIK Surgical Procedure
In Femto-LASIK Surgery (also known as Femtosecond), very thin corneal incisions (corneal flaps) are created accurately using an ultra-fast femtosecond laser. After the flap is created, the surgeon lifts it with a specially designed instrument. The Excimer laser is then used to shave away thin slices of the cornea and correct refractive errors. At the end of the procedure, the flap is replaced in its original position. After the procedure, the doctor covers the treated eye with a shield to protect it for healing and patient comfort.
The eyes are numb with topical eye drops before the laser eye treatment, so you will not feel pain throughout the procedure.

Femto Lasik Eye Surgery or PRK?
Although both procedures are laser eye treatment methods to modify the cornea to improve a person’s vision, Femto Lasik is a newer technique where the doctor creates a small flap in the cornea with a blade to reshape the layer beneath (stroma) with a laser and then puts it back in place. In PRK, the surgeon permanently removes a thin layer of the cornea’s surface and then reshapes the underlying layers to correct the imperfection with a laser. PRK is recommended for patients with thin cornea or for people engaged in activities that put them at risk for eye injuries. The recovery time in Femto Lasik is shorter than PRK.
