Why Dental Implants in Iran?

Dental implants in Iran are one of the most reliable and long-lasting treatments for teeth loss. When it comes to high-quality dental services with budget-friendly costs and proficient specialists, Iran comes in as the first cosmetic dentistry destination in the Middle East, and even in the world.
Modern equipped dental clinics, English-speaking highly-qualified dentists and surgeons, low costs compared to other countries, and high rates of successful dental surgeries have made Iran the top choice for various dental services such as dental filling, pediatric dentistry, dental veneers, smile correction, orthodontic treatments, and mainly dental implants for many people around the world.

A dental implant procedure is the implantation of an artificial metal root (screw) within the jawbones as a replacement for the damaged tooth root, and this implanted root provides a strong foundation for teeth crowns.
There are various advantages to dental implants. They help restore the aesthetic appearance of the teeth, in addition to the function and the structure of the missing tooth and jaws, as teeth implants function, feel, and look exactly like your normal teeth. Moreover, they are stable and will not slip, make noise, or decay, unlike dentures or bridgeworks which normally cause problems over time, such as speech problems or moving due to jawbone atrophy.
In Iran Medical Tours, we offer a dental implant package including Iran Medical Visa, pick-up and transfer, accommodation, doctor visits and appointments, and follow-ups.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants in Iran are done through a simple surgery in which a strong post of titanium, zirconia, or porcelain is placed deep into the jawbone. This metal post will later serve as the strong foundation for the replacement porcelain tooth.
Both titanium and zirconia are the strongest and lightest materials. They are fully compatible with the jawbones as they fuse completely with your jawbone so they do not slip or move or cause any damage to their surroundings, unlike fixed bridgeworks or normal dental prosthetics.
Moreover, dental implants do not get cavities like your normal teeth would, because neither metal nor porcelain crowns can be affected by cavities.

Are There Any Risks Associated with Dental Implants?

Like any operation, there are some risks and complications associated with dental implants. Those risks are rare problems in general, and if they occur, they are simple and treatable. The risks include:
  • Implant rejection
  • Infection in the affected area
  • Injury or damage to the adjacent teeth
  • Nerve damage, which can present as pain or numbness of the lip, gums, or chin
  • Sinus problems in the case of upper teeth implants

What Are the Stages of Dental Implant?

The dental implant is considered an outpatient procedure, as it does not require admission to the hospital.
The dental implant procedure is carried out in stages and requires time for bone healing between the different stages. The implantation procedure includes several steps, including:
  • Removing the damaged tooth parts
  • Preparing jawbones and sometimes bone grafting as needed
  • Implanting the metal root into the jaw
  • Waiting for bone growth around the implanted area and healing
  • Placing the abutment on the metal root
  • Installing the artificial crown
Dental implants may generally take more than a month. Most of this time passes while waiting for bone healing and growth. It depends on the materials used of course, and sometimes several steps are combined in one session.

Dental Implant Procedure

After a comprehensive dental examination and assessing the need for bone grafting, the procedure starts which is normally performed in three stages.

Stage 1 – Placing the metal root

Dental implants are usually performed under local anesthesia. In some cases, when the patients need simultaneous multiple implants, they may need general anesthesia or conscious sedation.
During a dental implant procedure, the dentist or the implant specialist will drill into the jawbones and place the metal root (screw) deep inside the jawbones. This part will serve as the solid root for the artificial tooth crown, which may be later placed in another session, and a temporary tooth will be placed on the metal root to fill the gap until the next session.

Stage 2 – Waiting for bone growth

Once the metal root is implanted into the jaw, the process of bone tissue formation around it begins. During this process, the jawbone unites with the implanted root. This stage takes some time to form a solid base for the artificial crown until it becomes as strong as natural teeth roots. It usually takes 2 to 4 weeks for the metal root to fit properly in the jawbone.

Stage 3 – Placing the abutment

After the process of bone tissue healing around the metal root, there will be another session to place the abutment which is the part that the crown will attach to. Abutment placement is a simple process that the dentist performs in the clinic under a local anesthetic. After abutment placement, the gum will grow around it but not over it.
In some cases, the abutment is attached to the metal root when the root is implanted. In this way, 2 sessions are accomplished in 1 session, but the abutment will be obvious whenever you laugh or open your mouth in this case. So, some people do not like it and prefer to install the abutment in another session.
After installing the abutment, the gums need about 2 weeks to heal around the tooth, before the final crown of the tooth is placed.
After the gums heal, the final crown will be placed, which cannot be differentiated from the normal tooth in appearance and function. It typically takes around 3 months for the crown to be placed on the metal root.
The dental implant recovery period depends on different factors such as the number of implanted teeth, the material used, the bone condition, and the skill level of the surgeon. The full healing process varies from one patient to another, but it generally takes from 3 to 6 months. Of course, it does not disrupt your daily routines and you can go back to work within 2 – 3 days.
In cases the jawbone cannot hold the implant, the patient may require bone graft surgery before the implantation which may take some months for the jawbone to heal.

What Materials Are Crowns Made from?

Dental crowns are made of porcelain, known to be tough enough to withstand the enormous pressure that teeth are subjected to when chewing. Sometimes, metal materials are used in their composition which increases their resistance and strength dramatically.
Titanium, titanium alloys, and zirconia are common types of metals used for dental implants in Iran. Iranian dentists and surgeons use any of them regarding your condition and preference.

Dental Implant Cost in Iran

The dental implant cost in Iran is amazingly lower than in many other countries. The price starts from $500 to $900 per tooth while the quality is as high as in other countries. It depends on factors such as the number of implants needed, the type and material of the implant posts, the complexity of the surgery, and the need for bone grafting, or sinus lift (in maxillary implants). Although an extra fee may be added to the price for the crown placement, the dental implant cost in Iran is still tempting especially when you need multiple implants.
The reasonable price also lets you combine your medical trip in Iran with a memorable tailor-made Iran cultural tour. Even with travel expenses, you can still save significantly!

Possible Complications after the Operation

Whether the dental implant was done in one session or several sessions, some temporary complications may appear immediately after the operation, such as:
  • Simple swelling of the gums and lower face
  • Gum bruising
  • Mild pain in the site of the implanted part
  • Minor bleeding at the site of the implant
In case you encounter some dental implant problems, we recommend the following:
You may need to use analgesics or antibiotics after the procedure. In case of severe swelling or discomfort at the site of the implanted tooth, or any other problems, you should consult your doctor directly.
After each session of the procedure, it is better to eat soft foods as directed by your doctor, until the implant is healed.
The vast majority of dental implants are successful, and the bone rarely fails to fuse adequately around the implanted metal root. Your specialized dentist will also follow you up to assess the possibility of such problems, taking into account your medical history and the medications that you regularly use, or have used before the procedure, if there were any.
In the event of inadequate healing of bone tissue in the jaw, perhaps your dentist will have to remove the metal root, and implantation can be tried after 3 months.
